What is L.P.G?

KNOW ABOUT L.P.G.

  • L.P.G.: Liquefied Petroleum Gas. It consists of about 65 to 75% Butane, 23 to 33% Propane, a little bit Ethane and Ethylene. A typical composition is 70% Butane and 30% Propane. (Propane 27.5%, ISO butane 14.7%, N. Butane 55.7%, CS 2%).
  • Gaseous P.G. is almost twice as heavy as natural air.
  • Liquid L.P.G. is almost half as heavy as water. A weight of1Ltr. L.P.G. is 0/541Kg.
  • Gas pressure inside the cylinder remains constant at the same temperature, whether the cylinder is full, half or one eight It equals the saturated vapor pressure of L.P.G. at that temperature.   Only when the last drop of liquid L.P.G. has evaporated, the cylinder pressure will start falling down.
  • One liter of liquid P.G. becomes 238 liter of gaseous L.P.G. as 15°C and 760 mm Hg, or 1 kg of gas will become 444 liters of gas.
  • For complete combustion, 1 volume of L.P.G. requires 31 volumes of dry air. The products of combustion produces 23 volumes of nitrogen, 4volumes of Cot and 5 volumes of water.
  • Gas Calorific value= 21,3000 btu/lb=11,833 Kcal/kg.
